Today’s post is by Placement Specialist Margie Minnix, who’s in our Chesapeake office.
- Staffing agencies only supply clerical workers.
We have many levels of industrial, professional and technical positions that we also fill on a permanent basis. General labor, warehouse worker, paralegal, or CFO—so many different jobs to fit so many businesses.
- Staffing agencies only supply temporary workers, and I need someone to fill a full-time position.
We do have jobs that last for a single day, week or weeks. We also have direct hires, temporary workers who evolve into permanent placements, we can supply someone for you to fill in for a month or a few years. The answer is all in what the client requests.
- The candidates you get from a staffing agency are all job hoppers.
The candidates we receive are from all walks of life. Think of it in terms of real estate: You may have a solid home, but you would like to get into something bigger and better or something smaller with less hassle. Many times our candidates are currently working professionals that have hit a glass ceiling or are seeking a less stressful position. Some of these people have worked for the staffing agency for years in addition to another job, just for side money.
- Staffing agencies only have entry level-candidates.
Some of our candidates have been laid off or pushed out of their careers by the recession and by people with less experience who will work for lower wages. Seasoned professionals will now take lower paying jobs out of necessity. These professionals have already experienced the errors and the trials and know how to make your company perform top notch. PLUS they usually have been crossed trained or are eager to learn something new, so you can use them for more than one position.
- Staffing agencies only send over-qualified incumbents.
New graduates will work for minimal pay just to add experience to their resume. These candidates usually have some internship experience, plus education. The agency has usually tested the candidate in all of the basic office skills, plus you can request testing for industrial jobs as well. Most are hungry for knowledge and skill-building techniques and will go the distance to be a superstar on the job.
- If I want a temporary worker long-term, they might leave me for a job with benefits.
Reliance offers benefits. Some are available from the first day an associate works with us. Others accrue over time. Discuss current benefits with your placement specialist.
- Staffing agencies just place bodies; they do not worry about personalities or skills required.
All our candidates have been interviewed, and most have been thoroughly tested to make sure they meet the requirements of your position. Plus, once you’ve decided to hire a particular associate, we can offer different levels of background and reference checks. If you have spent any time with the staffing coordinator, on the phone or otherwise, they will be aware of your company’s personality and work to get you the right fit for the position.
- Staffing agencies will take too long to find the right person for my position.
Agencies usually pull candidates from a pool of qualified, pre-screened, and pre-tested applicants. Unless you require a very specific, hard-to-find skill or software knowledge that is hard to come by, then finding the right person shouldn’t be very difficult.
- The red tape is too much to deal with.
Actually, the red tape is seriously reduced by using a staffing agency! Gone are the days where you dealt with paychecks, insurance, timesheets, worker’s comp issues, and the Virginia Employment Commission. Let the staffing agency handle your HR hassles while you make sure the company is progressing in other areas. Your responsibility is limited to paying the invoices and letting the coordinator know if you are having employee issues, so they can counsel or terminate the employee for you.
- Staffing agencies are too expensive.
Staffing can save you money in more ways than one: Our temp-to-hire fees are basically a payment plan for a full-time position, or you can get a “sale price” if you choose to do a Direct Hire. Plus, if you are a valued customer and get many people from the agency, you will probably get discount pricing from time to time. The discounts are based on the amount of people you have taken to your company.
