Rachel Parker has certainly had her share of challenges, but with hard work, dedication, and a little help, she now has a great career at Eagleline USA, LLC in Chesapeake.
Working as the office and sales coordinator, Parker serves as the point person for the company but she first began her career with Reliance in 2014.
“I had recently separated from my husband and was trying to get back on my feet to provide for my son. Reliance provided me with a stable job,” said Parker.
She credits her placement specialist, Margie Minnix, for helping inspire her to reenter the workforce and for finding her the right fit.
“I told Margie I was looking for an office job and she kept her eyes out for me. She came across this job at Eagleline where she thought I would be a perfect fit. She called me up and it turns out she was right!”
Parker also had a previous assignment through Reliance where she excelled and showed her commitment to getting the job done.
“Its been pretty fantastic working with Reliance and I recommend it to a lot of people because it’s easy to use,” she said. “it’s easy to get in the door. And as long as you do your part by showing your face and making the calls, then they’re willing to work with you.”
When she was assigned to Eagleline, she wasn’t immediately hired. But after a short five-month trial period to demonstrate her customer service and database skills, she was brought on board permanently.
“Once we covered those bases I think [the owner] was pretty comfortable that I knew what I was talking about!”
Her assessment was confirmed by her supervisor, Bill Song, general manager.
“Rachel is good! She’s very helpful and we needed her to be permanent with us,” he said. “From sales to administrative, she can do almost everything we put on her desk! She treats our customers very well and they are satisfied working with her. “
Parker’s advice to anyone seeking employment with Reliance is to take the chance.
“Make the call. Go in and show your face. If you don’t show your face, they’re not going to know that you’re interested. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve told people to go to Reliance and they tell me, ‘They never call me’ and I respond, ‘Have you called them every week to tell them you’re available? Have you looked to see what job openings there are?’ You have to do the legwork. If you’re lazy about it, they’re not going to give you the time of day. And it’s understandable.”
And by following her own advice, Parker now has a job that brings her exactly what she was hoping for: peace of mind, a steady paycheck, and job satisfaction.
“I really like coming here. I like my coworkers – we have a really good team. It works!”
And the job definitely brings her personal satisfaction.
“It’s been a long road trying to get back on our feet, especially when I was bouncing around jobs because of my health, but having steady income provides the means to take my son out to go do things that a five-year-old loves to do,” she said. “He loves to go out to the movies and he loves to go outside and ride his bike and go to the park. And not having the money to be able to do these things to make kids happy is heartbreaking. Having a job that allows me to spend time with him (I work 9 to 5) and that I’m able to spend money on him because I am making decent wage has been a huge bonus.”
